4 Things You May Want To, But Should Not, Take With You From a Hotel Room
Deciding which hotel to stay at is one of the most important aspect of planning a trip. Whereas location, price, facilities, etc are some of the typical factors that travelers consider when booking a hotel. Among these various factors, complimentary room amenities like mini-soap, travel-size hair care products, laundry bags, etc are also likely to be a major influencer for some travelers who usually prefer taking such things along with them upon checkout. Although its acceptable to take some of these complimentary room amenities on your way out, there are others which should never be tucked away in your luggage.
Find out here about the items we may crave to take back with us but we shouldn’t do so:
Bed Sheets, Towels, Pillows, etc
Bed sheets, towels, pillows, pillow covers and the like aren’t for the guest to take along. As absurd as it may sound, it is not very uncommon for hotels to find out a pillow or a towel missing at the time of guest’s checkout. Hence, often it is a standard operating procedure that hotel’s follow to take a count and check the room for all these items before finally giving clearance for checkout. These are neither inexpensive perishables nor marketing collaterals that hotels would like their guests to take along as souvenirs, therefore these should never be taken along.
Electronics
You may find disclaimers on all the items that shouldn’t leave the room in some of the hotels in Karachi and elsewhere around the world especially on the more expensive items. However, even if such a disclaimer is missing one should definitely assume the same for electronics e.g. electric kettle and alarm clock.
Bath Robes
Bath robes are one of the most common items guests often think they can take along, but unfortunately that isn’t true and can land one in an embarrassing situation were the hotel staff to find out that a robe is missing and consequently ask the guest to get their luggage checked.
Hangers, Glasses, Cups
Even though these items may seem inexpensive and acceptable to take along, however that is not true. Always remember, it is better to ask before taking something than to assume and face embarrassment later.
Finally, if you do end up in a situation where the hotel staff finds you in possession of its property that was’t supposed to be a hotel give away it is best to politely apologize and return it. None of it is worth getting into an altercation which may even result in a fine or black listing from the hotel.
